More companies adding on-site health clinics

I was amazed to learn about onsite workplace health clinics on NPR last week.
They make such good sense for big companies, yet what do the small companies
do? They predict that more than 1,000 businesses will have an onsite clinic
within the year and that 10 to 15 percent of the working population will have
access to these clinics. That's great --but what about the other 85 percent? As
a clinician, I suggest job share -- pull together a team consisting of a
physician, nurse practitioner, registered dietitian and physical therapist, and
take the medical home model and make it the worksite home healthcare model.
Have a roaming team that comes by your office a few times a month and takes
care of your employees. After seeing thousands of health risk assessment data
compilations, I estimate that 30 to 40 percent of the workforce does not even
have a primary care physician (PCP), and over half of the rest don't go and see
their PCP. You can't go wrong with this. Get that yoga instructor to come to your
office! How about lunch time Zumba? (But make sure that your employees are
healthy enough to Zumba during lunch by getting a general workup by the
clinicians first.) Then get moving (under that clinical supervision).
